Riders to the Sea

Riders to the Sea

This is a short one act but not a simple one. We decided to have the audience sit onstage and then build a small platform for the performers. At the end there is a moment where four men carry on a man who they have just pulled out of the sea and whom is wrapped in a sail. As the costume designer with the support of my design team we decided that it would be best if the costumes were actually wet. So just offstage before this entrance actors would stand in tubs and get sprayed by water until they looked like they were just in the ocean. The effect was amazing and completely worth all of the time and effort.
